SDFM National Awards Program

The Society of Defense Financial Management (SDFM) annually recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of its chapters, membership, and the defense financial management community through its awards program. This program encompasses individual and team achievement awards, scholarships, chapter recognition, and a variety of other individual based awards.

How to Nominate:

  • To submit a nomination, login to the left-hand side of the page using your SDFM member login or set up a new account here.

  • Once you have an account, you will be able to start an award nomination/application, save it as you compile information, and submit anytime before the deadline (Listed below).

  • Please read the rules of each program before continuing to the submission form.

Award Categories:

Chapter Awards

There are a number of awards which recognize the many accomplishments of SDFM chapters. To be considered for the award categories below, review the Rules for Chapter Competition and complete the annual submission form.

  • The Community Service Award was established to recognize all chapters that organize their members to volunteer for organizations or individuals within their communities. All chapters are eligible, must meet a minimum number of total service hours and are required to complete a summary log of service activities.

  • The Chapter Communications Program recognizes up to two winners in each size category that regularly communicate their activities and the benefits of SDFM membership. To compete, chapters must publish a content rich newsletter, maintain a chapter website and provide external publicity to media outside the SDFM chapter. Chapters are required to complete the online form, which includes uploading a sample newsletter and providing a link to the chapter website. 

  • The Five Star Chapter Program sets a standard for a well-rounded professional chapter which supports the mission of the society. To qualify, a local chapter must meet minimum points criteria in chapter meetings, professional development, communication and administration, and then submit materials through the online portal.

  • The Membership Growth Awards are presented to chapters that obtain the highest absolute and percentage net growth during the year. All chapters are considered for these awards, which are based upon membership numbers in the national database. There is no submission requirement to be considered.

  • The Neil R. Ginnetti Professional Development Award is presented to one chapter that has demonstrated outstanding and innovative contributions to the professional development of its members and the training needs of the Command. The winning chapter program must have applicability to fellow SDFM chapters.

The annual Chapter Program reporting form encompasses all of the chapter award competition areas, including overall recognition. Complete and submit the submission form before the deadline of Friday, January 8, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET

National President's Award

The SDFM National President’s Award is presented to individuals within the defense financial management community who have demonstrated excellence in leadership and in contributions in defense financial management. 

Individual & Team Achievement Awards

Achievement awards are presented annually to individuals and teams who have been nominated for outstanding accomplishment within one of the functional fields of comptrollership. We encourage all nominators to review and download the program rules here before submitting their nomination.

Membership Awards

Several awards are presented to SDFM members for achievements in areas such as leadership and corporate engagement.
